MAPLE Project
Since November 2017, I am Post-Doctoral Researcher for the ERC MAPLE Project, led by Marina Costa Lobo, at the Social Sciences Institute of the University of Lisbon. MAPLE’s central goal is to analyse the degree of politicisation that the European issue has acquired following the onset of the Eurozone crisis in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain. I have been particularly involved in the conception, planning and implementation of multi-country panel surveys that use observational as well as experimental data to test the consequences of EU politicisation on political attitudes and voting behaviour at the national level.
DISSERTATION
My doctoral dissertation (defended on September 2017) deals with the ability of political parties to shape citizens’ attitudes toward the European Union. It is a quantitative study that uses observational as well as experimental data to investigate how, and under which conditions, parties are able to influence what people think about the integration process, and the implications that this top-down process has for the accountability of the political elite. The thesis has been directed by Eva Anduiza (UAB) and Jordi Muñoz (UB). The first chapter has been published by European Union Politics, while the second one has been published by West European Politics.
RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITAT DE BARCELONA
From October 2016 to October 2017 I have been Research Assistant in the Department of Political Science of the Universitat de Barcelona. I participated in the management of the Experimental Political Science Research Network (POLEXP) led by Jordi Muñoz. For the Network, I coordinated a nationwide on-line survey containing different survey experiments. I have also been member of the local organizing committee of the 2017 International Meeting on Experimental and Behavioral Social Sciences (IMEBESS) that POLEXP co-organized with the Nuffield Centre for Experimental Social Sciences of the University of Oxford (CESS). Finally, I managed the on-line experimental laboratory POLEX-Lab.
At the Universitat de Barcelona I also participate in the project "Political and attitudinal effects of terrorism" led by Albert Falcó-Gimeno and Jordi Muñoz. The project has as main objective to analyse, from an empirical point of view, the effect of the terrorist violence on citizens' political preferences and attitudes.
RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITAT AUTÒNOMA DE BARCELONA
Since 2011 I am a member of the research group "Democracy, Elections and Citizenship" led by Eva Anduiza. The group is very active and is pursuing different national and European funded projects. I have mainly participated in the "Stability and change in political attitudes" project, a nationwide panel survey on political attitudes of Spanish citizens. In particular, I coordinated the implementation of the 7th and 8th wave of the panel. I also took part in the "Livewhat" and "Populist attitudes in Spanish public opinion" projects, participating in the design, treatment definition and recruitment of participants of different survey and lab experiments.
